Colca Canyon
The Colca Canyon is a canyon of the Colca River in southern Peru, located about 160 kilometres (99 mi) northwest of Arequipa. It is Peru’s third most-visited tourist destination with about 120,000 visitors annually.With a depth of 3,270 metres (10,730 ft),it is one of the deepest in the world. Its length is about 70 kilometres (43 mi).The Colca Valley is a colorful Andean valley with pre-Inca roots, and towns founded in Spanish colonial times, still inhabited by people of the Collagua and the Cabana cultures. The local people maintain their ancestral traditions and continue to cultivate the pre-Inca stepped terraces, called andenes.
Itinerary Colca Canyon
1st Day:
Visit the Colca Canyon considered the deepest in the world. Leaving Arequipa we will visit Pampa Cañahuas to meet Vicuñas in the wild. Tocrapampa with its birds migratory throughout the year for its lagoons that are food for different kinds of birds from flamingos to the famous Ivis. Continuing with the tour we will make a stop at the highest point of the Patapampa path (4890msnm) a wonderful viewpoint of the volcanoes and the impressive mountain range of the Andes. Arrival to Chivay at 13:00 hours approx. Transfer to the selected Hotel. Free afternoon and / or option to visit the thermal and medicinal baths.
2nd Day:
Early in the morning after having breakfast, our bus will take us to the cross del Cóndor (highest point and Deep Canyon). In this lookout will observe the show of the flight of the Condor and the Canyon depth. Then we will return to our bus and visit the viewpoints of Choquetico and Antahuilque. Traditional peoples of Maca and Yanque. Enjoy lunch in Chivay and we will return to Arequipa to arrive at 5:00 p.m.
